The outpatient spa treatment 

In our fast-paced world, health and prevention are becoming increasingly important. Potential illnesses, exacerbations, or chronic conditions can be sustainably counteracted through an outpatient spa treatment.  

According to Section 23, Paragraph 2 of the Social Code (SGB V), every person with statutory health insurance is entitled to an outpatient spa treatment, also known as "outpatient preventive care in a recognized health resort." Since 2021, this has again been a mandatory benefit of statutory health insurance funds, which insured persons can claim every three years. 

Duration and services 

The standard duration is three weeks at a state-approved health resort of your choice, in consultation with your family doctor. Various services are available, including medicinal baths with resort-specific remedies such as mud, mineral water, or radon, complemented by high-quality physiotherapy treatments, relaxation and exercise sessions, and much more. 

You are free to choose your private accommodation, and medical treatments are available at the on-site therapy center. If you have been approved for an outpatient spa treatment, please register in advance using the telephone number listed above.

Costs

What costs does the health insurance company cover?

  • The health insurance company covers 100% of the costs for the spa doctor and 90% of the therapy costs, for example for physical treatments or physiotherapy, unless there is an exemption.  
  • The patient’s co-payment is €10 per prescription and 10% of the cost of the medicine.  
  • In addition, accommodation, meals, and visitor's tax are subsidized up to €16,00 per day. The exact amount of the subsidy varies depending on the health insurance provider.
