It all started around 1900 with the Royal Bathing Band - concert music at the forest spring, where the interested listeners were served coffee and cake. Because the illustrious gathering there was so popular, those responsible soon built an inn. The Waldquelle restaurant and café was born. The Restaurant and Café Waldquelle is a culinary highlight the historic spa gardens in Bad Elster. All year round you can enjoy regional and seasonal dishes and take part in exotic themed evenings about cuisines from other countries. You sit in the middle of an architectural and historical work of art - between a magical wooden music pavilion, the unique natural theater and the inn in the playful Art Nouveau style. The harmonious ensemble is rounded off by ponds, meadows, fir trees and deciduous trees.

Originally, the forest spring was a simple coffee house that catered to the audience of the Royal Bathing Band. The building was constructed in 1903, which we can still admire in all its splendor today. At that time there was a pastry shop on the ground floor and a guest room above - but the name was the same: Waldquelle. The pretty house survived both world wars largely unscathed, but fell into disrepair due to age. Thanks to extensive renovation work that closely followed the historical model, the restaurant has been completely restored.
