It all started around 1900 with the Royal Bathing Band - concert music at the forest spring, where the interested listeners were served coffee and cake. Because the illustrious gathering there was so popular, those responsible soon built an inn. The Waldquelle restaurant and café was born. The Waldquelle Restaurant and Café is a culinary highlight of the historic spa gardens in Bad Elster. Year-round, you can enjoy regional and seasonal dishes and participate in exotic themed evenings featuring cuisines from other countries. You'll dine amidst an architectural masterpiece – nestled between a charming wooden bandstand, the unique open-air theater, and the playful Art Nouveau inn. Ponds, meadows, fir trees, and deciduous trees complete the harmonious ensemble.

Originally, the Waldquelle was a simple coffee house serving the patrons of the Royal Bathing Chapel. The building , which we can still admire in all its splendor today, was erected in 1903. At that time, the ground floor housed a confectionery shop, with a dining room above – but the name was already the same: Waldquelle. The charming building survived both World Wars largely unscathed, but gradually fell into disrepair due to age. Thanks to extensive renovations, meticulously adhering to the historical model, the restaurant has been fully restored.
