The third largest reservoir in Saxony has everything to offer what the leisure heart desires. Besides swimming beaches, which are practically everywhere around the lake, playgrounds in front of and in the water delight the younger visitors. There are also dog beaches and nudist areas. If you don’t want to miss out on barbecue fun and campfires, settle down in front of the water sports centre. Climbing enthusiasts will find plenty of challenges at central Germany’s largest climbing park, and there are even golf courses. The extensive reservoir itself, in addition to swimming, invites sailing, fishing and boating. Romantic cycling and hiking trails through untouched nature let you relax and possibly observe one or another animal.
The Pöhl Dam near Plauen was created when another flood shook the Vogtland region in 1954. The solution: a reservoir. In 1960, the implementation began. Previously, at the bottom of the large lake stood a village, the old Pöhl. The inhabitants were housed in the surrounding towns. Finally, the Pöhl Dam emerged from a massive construction site with 23 concrete fields.
