NatureTheatre

Bad Elster was already a center for theater events and concerts at the beginning of the 20th century. People flocked from all over Europe. In 1911, a natural theater was also created. The open-air theater has now been adapted to modern circumstances and serves as a stimulating event venue.

The clearing of culture in the forest park of Bad Elster

Over 100 years ago, an idea brought about the NatureTheatre The opening in the middle of nature was celebrated with the Goethe festival play "Hermann and Dorothea". After the great success, there were performances in the fresh air every year in the summer months until 1945. Some very successful plays were "Heinrich the Finkler, King of the Germans", the "Hans Sachs Plays" and "Poet and Farmer".

After the Second World War, the last performance took place in 1952 before the NaturTheater was left to decay. The Chursächsische Veranstaltungsgesellschaft and the city of Bad Elster revived the NaturTheater in 2006 with numerous support. Carl Maria von Weber's romantic opera “Der Freischütz” was chosen for the festive reopening.

After extensive modernization in 2018, the theater in the historic forest park became an open-air arena with a mobile roof and a larger area for more spectators.
