Bad Elster
has a more than 150-year tradition as a Saxon State spa.
It was first mentioned in 1324.
Already in 1538, the spring "Elsteraner Säuerling was analysed and described as "very beneficial for nature's call". The most famous German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe was staying in Bad Elster in 1795 and described the "splendid water". After more analyses of the springs and the erection of the first spa facilities, the first official bathing season was opened in 1848. Since then, many Saxon Kings came here to find recreation and healing.
Among the most famous guests are King Friedrich August III. and King Albert, after whom today's Albert Bath was named.
From 1888 to 1890 the cure building was built and the spa gardens were designed.
In 1935 Bad Elster received town character and has been the southernmost town in Saxony since then.
Since 1992 the spa business has been operated together with the adjacent Bad Brambach by the Sächsische Staatsbäder GmbH.
In 1999, the redesigned Albert Bath with the modern bath and sauna world "Elsterado and a spacious wellness area was opened.
